For those of you who enjoy a touch of Bluegrass you will enjoy this song. For those of you who enjoy Vince Gill you will deeply enjoy this song. If you enjoy both then you will love this song.
Vince Gill began his career with his roots in Bluegrass music. He expanded into Country and even flowed over into the Pop arena but he never lost the love for his Blue Grass roots.
Vince Gill began writing the song following the death of country music superstar Keith Whitley, who died in 1989. Gill did not finish the song until a few years later following the death of his older brother Bob, in 1993, of a heart attack.
"I wrote this song, and I didn't have any idea if anybody would want to hear it, or like it. All I wanted to do was grieve for him and celebrate his life. That's how I always process grief—sit down with a guitar and make something up. Turns out that if anybody remembers any of my songs, it'll be this one."
Thousands of people have used this song to help them through their grief over the loss of a family member or beloved friend. I count myself among that number.
If you have faced or are facing that type of grief, take a listen to the words of the song and if a tear falls from your eyes, don't hold back. Let them flow for tears are the waters that help to cleanse and heal the grieving body, mind and soul.
I hope you will be blessed by Vince Gill's rendition of Go Rest High On That Mountain.
