Is America Mad?

My friend Phillip Adams wrote an article in The Australian recently titled Is America mad? Phillip has a tendency to lean a bit to the left at times, but he has leaned so far this time that he has fallen off the cliff. Personally, I think he bumped his head more than once on the way down. Some of his ridiculous offerings to show that America has gone mad were nothing more than “yellow journalism,” resurrected from the graveyard of 19th and 20th century journalism, a time when journalists sought to out-lie, out-twist, and color facts to suit their own agendas to sell papers. Wait, that sounds almost like the journalism of the 21st century. Alas, I digress, since that would be a topic for a whole other blog post. I will leave you to read the article for yourself, and then you decide.

I replied to Phillip’s post in the comments section, but apparently the censors at The Australian, or perhaps one of Phillip’s assistants, deemed it not suitable for publication. My only choice was to fire it off to Phillip’s personal e-mail address, where I am sure he will read it. We have exchanged opinions for a good number of years now, and, to this date, Phillip has yet to take offense to any rebuttal I have offered, unlike some of the other left-wing writers in various media enterprises. At the end of my e-mail to Phillip, I advised that I would be writing an article using the same title as his presentation that would tell him why America is mad. Some of you have figured it out, but it seems that our friends and enemies alike on the left have not “gotten it yet.”

Is America Mad?

Yes, America is mad. The people of America are mad. American citizens have not lost their minds; they are mad, angry, furious at what is happening to our country. Those of you who are old enough to remember the production called Network will remember the words of Howard Beale, broadcast journalist on UBS, "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!" Yes, rather than just drinking at the kool-ade pond of the elephants or the donkeys, the citizens who are informed are mad as hell. We have seen this demonstrated across this great nation of ours in the form of Town Hall meetings, Tea Parties, and most recently, the Tea Party in Washington, DC, where some two million (give or take a few thousand) American citizens gathered to announce to Washington and to the world that "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!" My daddy would have said, “Enough is enough, and too much is nasty.”

America is mad at the government spending that is driving this country deeper and deeper into debt, so deep that neither our grandchildren nor their children will ever see paid off. America is mad because of $787B stimulus spending and the $410B omnibus spending, that together about equal the $1.2T deficit that was supposedly "inherited.”

Now that the fiscal year has ended, we see that the feds ran a $1.58T deficit for FY 2009, the all-time record and the first deficit over a trillion bucks. This deficit is 3.4 times the $459B deficit of 2008, and 10 times the $160B deficit of 2007, which began when Republicans were still in control of Congress.

The left claims that those on the right are racists and are “mad” at Obama for all the spending, but that is not the truth. The American people are mad at those responsible for the madness and spending, whether it includes the President or not. The target of the anger is Congress. It is Congress that is responsible for budgets and budget deficits. Appropriations and budgets are set by the legislature, not the President. And Congress has been controlled by Democrats for nearly three years now, during which time they have set the two highest deficits in history, this year's record being almost four times the Republican record of 2004.

A survey of the OMB's Historical Tables (page 21) going back to the inception of the income tax in 1913 shows that no matter how we look at it, a Republican Congress does better at balancing the budget than does a Democrat Congress. Republican Congresses have produced the most recent surpluses, the largest surpluses, the most back-to-back surpluses, the most surpluses under a President of either party, etc. This is why the Democrats and their media lapdogs lay the responsibility for budgets and deficits on the President.

According to the OMB's Mid-Session Review (page 26) from August 25, total revenue for FY 2009 was down by $450 billion from FY 2008, yet the deficit was up by more than $1.1 trillion. So the problem is spending, not revenue. And in the middle of this massive shortfall, Congress is trying to saddle America with even more debt, with "initiatives" like healthcare reform, cap-and-trade, and "green" ventures. The latest OMB projections predict huge deficits for the next decade. These projections do not take into account Congress' spending spree in legislation that is still under consideration.

America is mad because of the complete violation of the Constitution by this President. He seized control of two major automobile companies and gave majority ownership to the Unions as payback for votes, with complete disregard to the objections of stockholders and to the giving of a major portion of ownership to Fiat for ZERO dollars while the stockholders in that company were disenfranchised. He placed politically appointed individuals in charge of both these companies while discharging CEOs who were the rightfully elected officers of these companies. Only the stockholders through the board of directors have to right to discharge these individuals, not the President of the U.S.

America is mad because of the so-called Healthcare Reform Bill that is being crammed down our throats by the do-nothings in Congress and a President who, by their own admission, have not read the bill and don’t know what is in it because it is too complicated to understand even by lawyers. The question is then: Why is such a travesty being considered? The job of the legislature is to offer checks and balances and not allow a President to run any request roughshod over the American people. America is mad because the legislature is not doing the job it was elected to do. It appears that perhaps those elected representatives received a wake-up call during the August recess, but we will continue to wait and see just how awake they are, or if they will allow the plan to be pushed through even though the majority of the people do not want it, according to the latest Rasmussen poll. (41% of voters nationwide now favor the health care reform plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats. That’s the lowest level of support yet measured. Fifty-six percent (56%) are opposed to the plan.)

Americans are mad because they see this country slowly being handed into control of foreign influence rather than American influence especially in the business and financial markets. According to Rasmussen, fifty-eight percent (58%) say the American economy will benefit more from decisions made by U.S. business leaders to help their own businesses grow than from decisions made by world leaders to help the global economy.

While Obama and the world leaders pushed ahead with plans for greater international coordination of their national economic policies, 60% of Americans think international organizations should have less influence on U.S. economic policy , not more. After all, 75% say what’s good for the world economy is not always good for the U.S. economy America is mad at the constant lies being handed off as truth and/or “good-for-you” by an administration that feels the American public is too stupid to know the truth or to decide what is good for them on their own.

I offered just a small portion of the Barnyard Bovine Excrement that has been handed to the American Public over the last 18 months in this article and this one

America is mad due to constantly being told that more spending and more government in our daily lives is what we need and is, according to the left, subscribed to in the Constitution in the phrase “For the General Welfare.” The way the left wishes to use this phrase is to provide more for the non-productive while taking more from the productive. Those who are informed are “mad as hell and not going to take it anymore,” for certainly this was not the intent of the Founding Fathers and writers of the Constitution.

So, in answer to Phillip Adams’ article in The Australia, yes, America is mad, but not in the way you use the word “mad.” America is mad that so many of its fellow citizens are too blind to see in Obama what Roman philosopher and statesman <Marcus Tullius Cicero said 2000 years ago when lamenting Julius Caesar's rise to dictator:

" Do not blame Caesar, blame the people of Rome who have so enthusiastically acclaimed and adored him and rejoiced in their loss of freedom and danced in his path and gave him triumphal processions … Blame the people who hail him when he speaks in the Forum of the “new, wonderful good society” which shall now be Rome's, interpreted to mean “more money, more ease, more security, more living fatly at the expense of the industrious” [emphasis added]. Julius was always an ambitious villain, but he only one man.

So Much for the 1st Amendment!

It would appear that the Constitution has been lost, forgotten or destroyed and that freedom of speech has been ended in Johnson City, Tennessee, my former home town.

It is indeed a sad situation when a business person can not sell their merchandise because of the complaints of a few individuals and the failure of Mall management to uphold the Constitution. Of course given my past experiences in that Mall it is doubtful that the management even understands or knows what is written in the Constitution.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

It is time for Mall management to tell a customer who objects, sorry but this is the United States of America and the Constitution gives individuals the right expression and that includes our store and/or kiosk owners. No one is requiring you to purchase the merchandise just as no one force’s you to look at or purchase the merchandise of other stores (Victoria’s Secrets comes to mind given their displays) so just pass on by. I won’t be holding my breath since the almighty dollar takes place over liberty and freedom.

Those who read this blog and who live in Johnson City need to let the Mall management know that their actions have not gone unnoticed and that until the merchant is allowed to sell his product that customers have requested they will no longer be shopping there. The Holiday’s are approaching and Mall management will not be happy to hear such words.

The Mall is managed by Glimcher Realty Trust of Ohio. Here is a list (see bottom of blog post for list) of other Malls and properties that Glimcher manages. If they are located in your area, let them know that the Constitution of the United States is not dead and that the 1st Amendment is still pertinent regardless of what the current administration of this country and their blinded followers think, that you are not pleased with their actions and that you intend to take your business elsewhere.

Folks the only way we can stop foolishness such as this is to hit them in the pocket book.

No more business for "Nobama" salesman

Press Staff Writer

Dan Fuchs said business was just starting to pick up at his kiosk in the Mall at Johnson City.

Fuchs’ business, the Graphic Edge, printed slogans and pictures on items such as coffee cups, bumper stickers and T-shirts. He said more than half of his business came from the sale of anti-Obama merchandise. Bumper stickers with slogans such as “SOS: Stop Obama’s Socialism,” “Nobama,” and “Chicago got the party, but the country got the hangover” were displayed around the small stand.

Now it appears Fuchs is out of business at the mall, but mall officials say this decision was not based upon political views.

Friday afternoon, Fuchs was handed a lease termination notice by mall officials and signed by Mall General Manager Tembra Aldridge. The letter states that the option to terminate the lease agreement is effective 11:59 p.m. today and that he must vacate the mall premises and remove his property before then.

Fuchs said he was given no reason for this termination and was shocked and upset. Thursday evening, Fuchs said mall officials met with him and told him to take down the anti-Obama items on display by closing time or face immediate eviction.

“I was upset about it, of course,” he said Friday prior to receiving the notice. “That’s my livelihood.”

Fuchs had been in business at the mall for around two months and hadn’t initially set out to create anti-Obama items. One day, he said a customer asked for an anti-Obama shirt to be printed. A few days later, he said another customer asked for another similar item.

The some of these items were put on display and most were completed upon customer request, Fuchs said. He said that around 60 percent of items being sold out of the kiosk was anti-Obama merchandise.

By Friday morning, Fuchs said these items had been take down.

Marsha Hammond, the mall’s marketing director, has a different take on that meeting. She said that Aldridge and Melinda Davis, the mall’s specialty leasing representative, suggested that Fuchs also display items in support of Obama. The mall had received several complaints from customers regarding the anti-Obama items, she said. Hammond also said that it was Fuchs’ decision to remove the items completely from display.

“That is not true,” Fuchs said. “I was given no choice. I was given, (Thursday) night at about 4:30, the option of taking it down or get out, receive an eviction at closing time.”

Fuchs said that while he never anticipated any, he was aware of customer complaints prior to Thursday’s meeting. Hammond said, and Fuchs confirmed, that several weeks prior to Thursday’s meeting, Davis came by the kiosk to suggest Fuchs display pro-Obama items which would allow him to continue to display anti-Obama items. Friday, prior to receiving the termination notice, Fuchs said he would comply with this suggestion.

The anti-Obama merchandise sold at the kiosk is not necessary his viewpoint, Fuchs said. He again said most were completed upon customer request and were displayed as work samples.

“I support his office,” he said “I might not like him, but I support his office.”

Fuchs also said that he would have printed anti-Republican items at customer request and has refused to print some vulgar items. He said that his stand wasn’t exclusive to the display of anti-Obama items, but bumper stickers with slogans such as “Support Our Troops” and “ETSU Pride” were also on display. Still, he said the anti-Obama items typically got a good response from mall patrons passing by.

“People would look at them and laugh or whatever, and I would always ask ‘what do you think about it? Do you approve?’ or some silly little remark,” he said. “And I would say that probably 95 percent were positive, only 5 percent were not.”

While Hammond said the mall is a private property and officials do not wish to see it used as a political forum, she said the mall does not conduct its business based on political views and that the termination of Fuchs’ lease is due to a matter between him and the mall.

Before he received the lease termination, Fuchs said his lease was set to expire Dec. 31 and that he planned to be around for the holiday season.

“I certainly hope I’m here to take care of the Christmas business,” he said.

Since receiving the notice, however, Fuchs said he now intends to continue to sell anti-Obama items via the Internet.

More Barnyard Bovine Excrement

Last week we took a look of the BBE currently piling up in the barnyard of the Obama White House and DC. It appears that the Barnyard Bovine Excrement continues to get deeper and deeper as is reflected by this week’s nonsense. When the BBE gets about waist high, which will be over the heads of our Leftist acquaintances maybe they will realize that BBE doesn’t float. Unfortunately most of them will take another drink of the koolaide and re-assume their position. I am certain I overlooked a lot of the piles. Feel free bring us up to date with your discoveries in the comment .

When is a tax, not a tax? When Obama says so

Obama spent much of his ABC interview denying that his health care plan breaks his campaign promise not to raise taxes on the middle class. He insisted that requiring everyone to have health insurance, or face a fine of up to $3,800 per family, is "absolutely not a tax increase." Host George Stephanopoulos pressed Obama so much on the issue that, after Obama accused him of making things up, Stephanopoulos read the definition of "tax" from Merriam-Webster's dictionary. "George, the fact that you looked up [in] Merriam's dictionary the definition of ‘tax increase' indicates to me that you're stretching a little bit right now," Obama replied.

Obama insisted that the insurance requirement is not a tax.

"For us to say that you've got to take a responsibility to get health insurance is absolutely not a tax increase," the president said. "What it's saying is...that we're not going to have other people carrying your burdens for you anymore.

"Right now everybody in America, just about, has to get auto insurance," Obama added. "Nobody considers that a tax increase.

"You just can't make up that language and decide that that's called a tax increase," he added.

But a Democratic staff description of Sen. Max Baucus' bill calls the proposed fines an "excise tax." Penalties of up to $950 for individuals and $3,800 for families would be imposed on those who don't get coverage. Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., said Monday he expects the family penalty to be slashed in half to $1,900.

The House bill uses a complex formula to calculate the penalties, calling them a "tax on individuals without acceptable health care coverage."

REMEMBER BUSH 1 and NO NEW TAXES, IT’S NOW OBAMA AND NO NEW TAXES.

It wouldn't be the first asterisk added to Obama's campaign pledge on taxes. Earlier this year, he signed a tobacco tax increase to pay for children's health insurance. Even that can be read as a violation of his expansive campaign promise.

"I can make a firm pledge," he said in Dover, N.H., on Sept. 12, 2008. "Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes."

He repeatedly promised "you will not see any of your taxes increase one single dime."

With any luck Obummer will suffer the same fate as Bush I.

ILLEGALS WILL NOT BE COVERED UNDER MY HEALTH CARE PLAN.

Democrats have the audacity to tell us to our faces that national health care won't cover illegals. Not only that, but they tell us we must not be able to read if we think it does. ... [S]ection [246 of the bill], which liberals keep brandishing like a DNA-stained dress, states: 'Nothing in this subtitle shall allow federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.' In other words, illegal aliens are excluded from precisely one section of the thousand-page, goodie-laden health care bill: Section 246, which distributes taxpayer-funded 'affordability credits' to people who can't afford to pay for their own health care. Even this minor restriction on taxpayer largesse to illegals will immediately be overturned by the courts. But the point is: Except for vouchers, the bill does not even pretend to exclude illegals from any part of national health care -- including the taxpayer-funded health insurance plan.

Post Office Eefficient as ObamaCare?

It wasn't long ago that Barack Obama was using the United States Postal Service as a shining example for how ObamaCare's "public option" would affect the competition. The Postal Service, Obama argued, hadn't driven its competitors out of business and neither would ObamaCare. In fact, he argued, it was the Postal Service -- and not FedEx or UPS -- that was having all the problems. Fast forward a couple of months, and Congress is considering a USPS bailout as part of a stopgap spending bill scheduled to come before Congress in the next week. According to David Rogers at Politico, it "would be allowed to defer $4 billion in payments due at the end of this month to cover retirement benefits for its employees." The deferment could last until 2017. It's no wonder Obama has shifted to comparing the public option to public universities. Then again, in California, college tuition is skyrocketing this year by 32 percent due to the state's crushing budget deficits. Looks like it's back to the drawing board, Barack! (Reprinted from the Patriot Post )

Obama: ACORN? What's that?

Last week “the One said”: "Frankly, it's not really something I've followed closely," Obama said. "I didn't even know that ACORN was getting a whole lot of federal money."

We would also like to recall, but the left would like for us to forget that Obama actually worked with ACORN in the early 1990's on Project Vote Smart. He used ACORN foot soldiers in his campaigns for the state senate, recruiting them through his ties with the Maoist New Party in Chicago. And just last year, he used one of their phony front organizations to channel $800,000 to the group for GOTV operations.

Obama 'skeptical' about more troops

I will focus this strategy on five goals essential to making America safer: ending the war in Iraq responsibly; finishing the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban; securing all nuclear weapons and materials from terrorists and rogue states; achieving true energy security; and rebuilding our alliances to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Read more at: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/linda-bergthold/obama-argues-strategy-mcc_b_112913.html

April 16, 2008, Obama said, "Now, I will always listen to our commanders on the ground with respect to tactics.

During the second Presidential debate on october 7th 2008, Obama said: We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority.\"

On January 17th 2009, in an interview with Katie Couric (CBS) Obama changed his position on Killing Osama saying: \"My preference obviously would be to capture or kill him\" he said. \"But if we have so tightened the noose that he\'s in a cave somewhere and can\'t even communicate with his operatives then we will meet our goal of protecting America.\"

From Hillary who hates the military about as bad as Obummer: "But I can only tell you there are other assessments from very expert military analysts who have worked in counter-insurgencies that are the exact opposite," she said.

I don?t think anybody is going to push to a conclusion for the sake of a conclusion."She added: "So we have to be really clear-eyed about this. And what I’m very grateful for is that we’re not coming in with any ideological presuppositions."

Hope 'n' Change in Fiscal News

"President Obama's welfare spending will reach $888 billion in a single fiscal year -- 2010 -- more than the Bush administration spent on [the] war in Iraq from the first 'shock and awe' attack in 2003 until Bush left office in January." During the campaign, of course, Obama used the federal debt as a bludgeoning tool against his opponent. "Because of the Bush-McCain policies, our debt has ballooned," Obama warned in March 2008. "This is creating problems in our fragile economy. And that kind of debt also places an unfair burden on our children and grandchildren, who will have to repay it."

"President Obama's budget will likely produce $13 trillion in deficit spending over the next 10 years -- nearly $4 trillion more than forecast." That's about 10 times Bush's last deficit.

Obama also complained about the cost of Iraq -- "When Iraq is costing each household about $100 a month, you're paying a price for this war" -- but this doesn't compute either. As another report indicates, "Applying that same standard to means-tested welfare spending reveals that welfare will cost each household $560 per month in 2009 and $638 per month in 2010." Witness liberal "compassion."

Terrorist Sing His Praise

"I congratulate our son the president, 'Obama' ... and commend him because he is the [leader of the] host country. ... We are content and happy if Obama can stay forever as the president of the United States of America... The American presidents used to say to us, they shall terrorize us.... What our son Obama said is completely different today." --Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, yet another Obama ally he probably wishes would hold his tongue (Hattip Patriot Post)

As do the children of this school ( kind of like Germany 1938-45) as they sing his praises:

Obama Loves the Little Children……

A video recently posted on YouTube shows a class at B. Bernice Young Elementary School in Burlington, New Jersey, learning to sing the praises of Barack Obama. The kids laud his "great accomplishments" and his "great plans" to "make this country's economy number one again." The song also quotes from the children's spiritual "Jesus Loves the Little Children" -- except Jesus' name is replaced with Obama's: "He said red, yellow, black or white/All are equal in his sight. Barack Hussein Obama." Oddly enough, children in public schools can't sing the actual song "Jesus Loves the Little Children" for fear of the ACLU. It must first be adulterated with the name of a cult leader. And liberals couldn't understand why so many parents didn't want their children subjected to the speech The One gave to schools earlier this month.

We are soon going to need a tractor to clean up the barnyard. We need to get started today, 2010 and 2012 will be too late. Make your “elected representative’s aware and tell them to start shoveling before the Barnyard Bovine Excrement covers this country.
