Welcome Aboard!

Well, she did it! My loving wife finally talked me into starting up a Blogspot! So welcome to our maiden voyage. Glad to have you aboard!

Thought I would see what I could get going on my first entry. As you will notice, I have posted a POLL asking you to pick the three most important tough issues that you would like to see the current crop of Presidential candidates address, with hard answers and not just some thirty second sound bite that will sound good to the media but says nothing about the issue when it comes down to it. So far, that appears to be what we are getting. It is no wonder that jokes about “Electile Dysfunction” are going around. We haven’t seen any real good fights, unless you want to call the skirmish between Senators Clinton and Obama in South Carolina a fight. We will get around to talking about those issues as the poll progresses. Feel free to post your comments as you vote on the poll.

I watch the polls and such from the right, the left, the far right, and the far left, and they sure do vary to the point of sometimes being ridiculous. I don’t get caught up much with comments in the far left polls because it appears that only those from that segment post there, and anyone with a different view will be: a) ignored; b) ganged up on; c) mugged. I will try to keep such stuff like that from happening here on this Blog. We will welcome comments that add to the conversation from all sides of the spectrum, but those with nothing to add to the conversation might as well just go somewhere else.

I’ve actually tried to get on some of the blogs that I see as being to the right of the right and some that are far right, just as I tried to get on some on the far left. I have not found them welcoming, to say the least. I tried to get on the Blog that is run by Tony Perkins of Family Research Council, the political arm of James Dobson’s Focus on the Family and, boy, was that a surprise. For one who talks about the Freedom of Speech, their blog sure doesn’t walk the walk. It seems also that you need to make a contribution to be able to comment on their blog. So much for those who might have a different opinion and do not wish to contribute to their agenda. I won’t be doing that here, so not to worry. I did put in $0.00 and to my surprise it came back with $1.00 and asking for my credit card number. I also got a rather testy letter stating that they did this to stop those who might post spam or bring viruses into their blog.

That was enough for me. That’s when I decided to open my own blog, and, Tony, if you happen to run across this one, you are welcome to comment, and I won’t charge you a dime to do so.

The rest of you are welcome to comment on any of the things mentioned in this initial run, and we’ll be putting up some other things for comment real soon.

Hi Ticker! Glad to see you online. I enjoy your insight. You seem to have a good perspective on what's happening in our government. Keep up the good work. I took the poll!

All the best

Thanks fred. You are always welcome.

Hi Ticker, Been wondering when you'd do this. Too much "static" on the other one, and some pretty impudent statements made to sensible posts.

I will probably watch and learn, for a while, like I did with AC-T, then feel qualified to join in.

Ha!

You'll soon be hooked, just like all the rest of us.

We still miss you back this way, though.

Thanks to each of you. Gil, Dr.Mary (and thanks youngen for the hook up) and Bubba, you knew it wouldn't be long . Not to worry, I will still make an appearence occassionaly on the other sites that I have posted on. The welcome from each of you means a lot to me. I will be looking forward to your comments.
I will try to post new topic each day. For tommorrow it will be on the Stimulus Package deal and should be interesting. Oh, I probably will not put a new topic up on Sunday's unless I can get it written ahead of time. I need one day to rest but feel free to post anytime.

Hey Ticker,

Thanks for the invite. Nothing much to offer at the moment. Not sure how this all works. Though your blog has somehow hooked up with mine, I have never actually done anything with it. It's been one of those things I am always putting off till tomorrow partly from lack of focus, partly just not knowing what to call it. I will follow you lead and avoid posting unless I have some strong opinion on a subject.

Well, well, well, Thomas. Good to see you! I will enjoy your posts again. I think you and I have a bit in common as concerns politics, even though I think you have said you are apolitical.

Thanks Gil, and I am apolitical in the sense that I do not support a candidate or a political party. My belief is that all dogmatic thinking is a hindrance to reason. I am not beyond changing my opinions and to a great extent I know too little about many of the issues to get really stuck in a rut regarding solutions.

Most of my life I have been far better at seeing things that need fixing and think the way to finding solutions is through the sharing of ideas with all spectrums of thought.

New times call for new solutions and though I agree, we can learn from history, that does not mean applying outdated ideas that may have worked once but no longer apply.

Welcome Thomas. I think you will enjoy the opportunity to have civil discussions about concerns, current events and even funny things occassionaly. I believe you will find it an enjoyable experience and much different than the usual forums.

Hey Ticker,

Thanks, I'm kind of at a loss for words...

Anything you need, I'm here...

Naw, Larry, you'll get over it. LOL

Welcome aboard !

I have to be honest, I feel just a little intimidated by your breadth of knowledge on the topics so far posted. I would love to contribute but in the areas you've focussed on I'm strictly an observer.

Anyhow, I shall pop in from time to time and test the waters. My thing is I know a little about a lot. Was wondering if there is not some way you could encourage responses, maybe by posing questions us lesser intellects could respond to. ;-)

Thomas , you give yourself much too little credit. I know that you are supposedly a non-political individual, however I am sure you have opinions. If so fire 'em away, that is the purpose of the question, what say you.
I appreciate your comments for they come from a wise indvidual.

Thanks for Jus Sayin.

I agree with Thomas,

Your blogs are a little overwhelming for this hard working high school graduate country boy...

You definately sound extremely educated and well versed on your topics...

Me, I'm just a practical skilled man, but that doesn't mean I'm stupid...

Would it be possible to do a kind of " personal, what we got going on " kind of thread ???

Ticker said...

Thanks Larry, I'm trying to put them into a form where you can express your opinion. There are no right or wrong post on here. If you read something, say on the economy and you have an opinion about what is right or wrong, they have at it. Same goes with all the topics. Have an opinion on what was said during the State of the Union, say away. Like I say , there are no right or wrong. There will be no one throwing rocks or calling names because they don't like your opinion. Count on it!
I know from some of your opinions that you are not "stupid". You have a keen outlook on things that are happening in this country brought about through experience, seeing what is happening in your travels and I know you listen to folks. That is exactly the type of opinion that I am looking for on this blog.
I thank you for your input. I'm new at this and all the suggestions I can get will help make it better.
