How about some music to end a dreary rainy day in Georgia.
What better way to do so than with some of the best sounds in yesterdays rock and country.
In case you don't remember Duane Eddy, he was the sound of Twangin Guitar in the 60's and did the Peter Gunn theme. Probably one of his most popular and remembered songs was 40 Miles of Bad Road .
Who could forget Floyd Cramer and his famous sound on piano. No one played or plays like Floyd. His "slip note" playing in Last Date is unforgettable. My alma marta East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee offers the "Floyd Cramer Competitive Scholarship, I am proud to say.
Boots Randolph and his Yakkity Sax will always be a classic among sax players and music lovers everywhere. He played with Chet Atkins, Floyd Cramer and anyone and everyone who was anything in Country Music. He could play drunk on his butt or stone cold sober and I've seen him play both ways. I saw him fall off the stage at the Cotton Bowl in the 60's and never miss a note as he wailed out Yakkity Sax.
So here's a bit of some great sound by three country and rock legends.

The Pretenders... My City Was Gone

I had the distinct pleasure of hearing all three in the early 60's to the mid/late 70's with Boots Randolph being the last in the little border town of Harlingen, Texas. I only wished to have been fortunate enough to hear the Pretenders as Anonymous was. Gooooooooooood Sounds.
I can't believe I left out the Platters... missed them too. "Only You" and "The Great Pretender." Oh, and Buddy Holly as well.
Couldn't fit in the Platters and Buddy Holly today. I was in a country mood. I'll get around to Buddy Holly of who I use to do a might good imitation of his hit Peggy Sue.
Pretenders were not one of my favorites but by the time they were around I didn't have much time for Rock or anything else. Too busy being a Dad.
Last time I heard Boots was in Evansville, Ind at the Holiday Inn which is owned by Jack Greene, another country music legend. He was there and so was Cramer. Chet Atkins came around and played a few with them as well. They told of playing the "clubs" in Kentucky for what they could drink. With Boots they probably went broke. hahah. But anyhow it was a terrific night. Several other name country folk were around that night and they would take the mike occasionally. The best part came after closing and I got to be a part of that as well. I had a interest in a motel and lounge in So. Il and would often book some of the groups that Jack Greene booked and he would often see if he could route some of the country stars through my lounge as they traveled to Evansville. I had a 750 seat lounge which musicians loved. We could pack em in. Loved my country music and still do.
