Why Go To Church?

Ever ask yourself "why do I bother to go to church" or if you are not a church goer have you ever wondered why folks do go to church regularly?
My good friend and fellow classmate, John Jones, from a time back when such things were not asked or discussed because going to church was just as natural as going to work, posted this on his Face Book page and I "borrowed" it from him.
It certainly does pose a question for many. What do you think?

Why Go To Church

Some Christians have a hard time regularly attending church for a variety of reasons, but with the right pastor and the right place that makes you comfortable, your relationship with God will benefit immensely. Here's a great story about the importance of church :)

A churchgoer wrote a letter to the editor of the newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church ever...y Sunday. I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me I can't remember a single one of them. So I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all."

This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor.

It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher: "I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this: They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me those meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!"

Faith sees the invisible, Believes the incredible and Receives the impossible.

Thank God for our physical and our spiritual nourishment.

I love that story...it's so true.

I have friends who are Christian and they vigorously defend their not attending church. And I get pat on the head's about going, like "I'm so glad you have somewhere you enjoy", etc. Very patronizing.
But, I think they mean well!

They can never know the fullness of attending a church whose pastor you learn from, whose fellow congregants care about you, whose music lifts you up.......but to say so is not up to me because it's met with SUCH resistance. A story like this should be enough.
I'm glad you posted it..

Z I think many have had the same experiences as you have.

I will say that in this day and time it is difficult to find a church where one can be "fed" something other than fluff and stuff and the congregation is more of a social club group. I know that in all of our moving about the country we have found it to be true. It took us over a year to find a place where we feel satisfied. We always went expecting but often came away disappointed.

Ticker - That was a good story.

I have not been to church on a regular basis - for about 5 or 6
years.

I am going to start back this Sunday.

Why didn't I go all that time?

Because I do not like sermons. I find them boring.

I always knew I would go back to church again and I still won't like the sermons - but I'm going to go for two reasons.

One - my life is so empty - not of Faith - becuase I have a strong relationship with God - but I'm turning to church so that I can meet some people.

Second - because I need to turn more to the Lord - since I have allowed my life to get in such a mess. To put it simply:

I Need The Lord More Now Then I Ever Have Before - And I Know I Will Find Him There - at church.

Thanks - Ticker.

For always being here - for me.
