Ticker - Thanks so much - that was just great! Never heard of the Blackwood Bros. but they put a smile on my face and had my foot tapping. I loved the pianist (I am a far cry from him as I pound out Bach in slo/mo, and did you seen him turn his head and give us a smile when he was done?

Sue, they did backup for Elvis in the early years. Now I bet you have heard them.

Glad you enjoyed them Debbie. They were a great group.Of course JD Sumner was one of the greatest bass singers of all times. He sang with the Stamps and was on Bill Gaither's show for years. All the old timers were on there. They are all about gone and for the most part so is the great gospel music.

Ticker - The truth is - no I haven't heard of them. But I have now.

And in my book anyone who backed up Elvis is pretty great.

Several groups which included some of the Blackwood group backed Elvis. The Stamps(made up of part of the early Blackwood group) was one of Elvis earlier ones. The Imperials were his longest lasting backup gospel group for both gospel and non gospel. They were his favorites and some of the Imperials had sang with the Blackwood Brothers in years past. They did the back up on How Great Thou Art and Peace in the Valley with Elvis. He had known the members of the Blackwood Brothers since he was a teenager singing in a Church of God in Memphis. He had wanted to be apart of the group in the church but because of his sideburns the preachers son said he could not be a member and said he couldn't sing either. Of course that was not true but Elvis did have a problem singing anything other than lead. It took him a number of years before he could harmonize on any part other than the lead. I remember seeing him with the Blackwood Brothers as well as the Imperials in concert several times.
The sound that they could make would make chills run up and down y our spine from the top of your head to the tip of your toes.
Now you know a little history of the group and Elvis.

I left out the most famous of the groups with Elvis or at least the ones that most remember, "The Jordanaires". They are the ones who appeared in movies with him.

Ticker - Yes, the Jordanaires. I remember them well.

I did check out another video by the BB, How Great Thou Art, but the one you posted is far better.

Ticker - One final word about Elvis.

I love Elvis, and his music will always be special to me. He left his mark on the world - and his legacy, his music, will always be remembered.
