Could It Have Been Worse?
2011 Super Bowl XLV Halftime Show
Could anything have been worse?
Were the outfits wardrobe rejects from Star Wars or Star Trek?
And the cast of a thousand aliens? What planet were they from?
Any better suggestions than next year just eliminate half time?

I'll take 20 seconds of water boarding over 12 minutes of that crap !!
Mangling a song like the National Anthem at a huge event like the Super Bowl is pretty sad! Her focus was more on her voice making funky sounds than on the song. Can you imagine the impact had the planners found someone who actually believed in what they were singing? The response would probably have been louder than that uproarious halftime show.
Ticker, I didn't even watch the mess, but saw a "rerun" of that silly twit trying to "sing" the National Anthem. If that's the best they could come up with, they should have stuck with Rosanne.
When are they going to get someone who can REALLY sing to perform the National Anthem at these over rated circuses?
Roper I am sure we can get Dallas to do a good rendition of "Saints". I understand he can do it on Trumpet and throw in some tenor sax for variety. As his manager, when does he get to sign the multi-million dollar contract?
Ole Rose & Nancy, It wouldn't be PC to have someone who could actually sing our National Anthem.
Texas Fred, LOL on Fergie keeping her top on. Of course if she had lost it the show would have had at least one exciting moment.
I did think the Aguilera's National Anthem was an abomination but we thought the Black Eyed Peas show was entertaining. It wasn't exactly my type of music, I wouldn't pay to go see it, and don't need to see it again but I thought it was kind of fun.
Chuck, I've seen Black Eyed Peas and believe me they were terrible, big time.
Debbie, yep, why can't they sing it as written. One explanation is NO TALENT. It is a difficult song to sing at best and those with no talent can do nothing but destroy it. Reba McEntire singing it at a Rodeo at age 14 did a better job and at least knew all the words. She could carry a tune as well.
Hopefully next year the halftime show will lean more to being patriotic to our country -vs- the alien stuff.
I agree with Nancy, get someone who can sing the National Anthem without trying to impress the audience with their voice...LOL...what a joke that was.
IMHO, I would rather have watched & listened to our very own Western Carolina University band who played in the Rose Bowl Parade this year. To me that would have been a perfect halftime show!!
As soon as the first half was over, I tuned to the History Channel for 45 minutes. I don't ever recall watching the halftime during the Super Bowl. It's all for having more time available for sponsors, which brings the network more bucks. Plus, instead of a 15 break for the teams, they get 45 minutes to cool down and if you were pulling for Green Bay, like yours truly, cooling down was not a good thing.
I missed the National Anthem and am glad I did. Otherwise, I might have a damaged TV. I got in just in time to see the coin toss, which had to be more exciting than the half-time show.
And Fred, the waterboarding remark was outstanding.
Yea, PJ. What happened to "normal" halftime shows? Now it's like you say, more commercial time. Best halftime show I remember was at Cotton Bowl halftime. Boots Randolph was was doing Yakety Saxs, drunk as a skunk, fell off the stage and never missed a dang note. Now that's class!!
I was there while a lot of folks were watching it on TV and didn't get the full effect of it nor the appreciation of a true entertainer.
My sis and her husband got back and I asked her if the Black Eyed Peas were as bad in person as on TV..she said they were fabulous and everyone loved them, that the sound was great there and all the people (1000) on the ground , all lit up, was fabulous to see. And she's not a Peas fan normally.. I think the sound is hard to pick up on TV and I think the whole thing was a bad pick for entertainment but it went over well there, apparently.
As for Aguillar..I'm a singer and if I was singing the Anthem to THAT many people, I'd demand a TELEPROMPTER :-)

Fred G.
LOL Fred.
The National Anthem was a debacle... I did something I have NEVER done before, I MUTED the TV while that POS was howling like a dying banshee...
The only thing I can say about halftime is this: Fergie kept her top on...
The NFL ran a 2-bit show, they blew the seating plan, the whole thing was a train wreck...
But the game was OK...

1/2 time show for 2012 Superbowl 46..... Dallas Williams singing Oh When The Saints Come Marching in.
I'm not a big Saint's fan, but the image of you singing it is just too good to pass up!

Game was great, The PACK IS BACK
Several headlines, even MSM, called it the WORST halftime ever. I agree. I don't call that music.
Maybe I'm just old, ha.
I don't know why entertainers can't just SING the national anthem as written.

Ticker, you've known me lo enough to know I am not PC!!
Let's get some REAL talent at these exhibitions!!!
Old Rose
GM is working on it Old Rose, I think, maybe, then maybe not. He liked the BEP's LOL.
I'd vote for it!!! ANYONE but these neew "sangers"!!!!!

Boy, are they lost without auto-tune.
They should try the Borromeo String Quartet doing some Beethoven next year.
It is always possible to get worse.
